2014 is starting on the dry side. Effective 1/13/2014, the Commissioners Court has determined that circumstances present in all or part of the unincorporated area of Palo Pinto County create a public safety hazard that would be exacerbated by outdoor burning. The initial ban lasts for 90 days unless modified or terminated.
The order does not prohibit outdoor burning activities when used solely for recreational and noncommercial preparation of food or exclusively as a means to provide warmth in cold weather or outdoor cooking on gas fired or charcoal grills.
Burning of brush/tree piles when clearing land is prohibited. Aerial luminaries, also known as “Sky Lanterns, Kong-Ming Lanterns or Chinese Lanterns” are also prohibited.
Violation of the order is a Class “C” misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.00.
Pray for rain!
